The Hunt Staff is composed of the huntsman and the whippers-in. These are
honorary positions in the Middlebrook Hounds club. The huntsman has the
responsibility of breeding and training the pack and instructing the
whippers-in. The whippers-in assist the huntsman in the training and handling
of hounds in the kennel and in the hunt field.
Hunt Staff
The hunt field is led by a Field Master, who is appointed by the Master. In our
case, the Jt. Master leads the field. A first flight rides to hounds and jumps.
A second flight follows hounds at a slower pace (hilltoppers). The Field Master
is responsible for the safety of the field and ensures that the riders are
actively involved with the Chase, yet do not interfere with the huntsman or
hounds.
Hunt Field
The Middlebrook Hunt is located in the Shenandoah Valley. The terrain is
composed of rolling to steep hills, woods, pastures and streams. Panels are
telephone poles, rails, coops and logs.
