A Short History of the Middlebrook Hounds (1930-2001)

HALCYON DAYS
In the southern portion of the Old Glenmore's country, Mr. Getty, Mrs. Case, and the active fox-hunters associated with them continued as before, but now under the name of THE MIDDLEBROOK HOUNDS. The name was new, but all else was the same - same Masters, same Hunt Staff, same kennels, same hunt country, same landowners, same excellent pack, and same superb sport! So, having steadily moved forward for decades along many interesting windings of the line, the Middlebrook returned to the name of its original locale and came into quieter and, happily, even more flourishing times.
The period since 1995 has been, without question, the most brilliant in the Hunt's history. An extensive new territory in northern Rockbridge County, immediately adjacent to the traditional areas around Dutch Hollow and Newport, was added to the country of the Middlebrook Hounds and serves as its reserve area. Wonderful additions to the actively hunted area were also made in the Spottswood area. A vast paneling and trail-clearing program left the entire country eminently rideable. Visitors from other American hunts, as well as from England and Ireland, appeared to hunt with the famed blue-ticks and went away rejoicing in what they had discovered. For the sport had reached a wonderful apogee, producing a long series of classic, ever-memorable runs. Several of these great hunts are well worthy of recounting.
